Textures and Surface Materials

Amateras Model Viewer supports the loading of various surface materials assigned to 3D models. In addition to texture images, it can also render bump maps, reflection maps, transparency maps, and certain animations.

Two Types of View Navigation

Amateras Model Viewer offers two navigation modes: Orbit Navigation, which lets you rotate around the 3D model, and Flight Navigation, which lets you move freely around it.

Smooth View Control to Reduce Motion Sickness

All camera controls for 3D models — including rotation, orbit rotation, and translation — use inertial motion to avoid sudden movements. This helps reduce motion sickness when the model is viewed on a large screen.

Gamepad Control is also Supported

In addition to using a mouse, you can also use a gamepad. By using a gamepad, you can perform advanced view control, such as flying around an object.

Marker Placement Feature

You can place markers of specified colors and sizes on the surface of a 3D model. You can either place markers as you provide explanations or load markers that have been placed in advance all at once.

Store and Restore Viewpoints

Once you find a viewpoint that clearly shows the features of a 3D model, you can name it and save its coordinates. This allows you to return to that viewpoint at any time during a presentation.

Wireframe View Style

Switching the 3D model to Wireframe view style can make its structure easier to understand. You can switch the view style at any time with a single keyboard shortcut.

Color based on Normals

You can apply coloring based on the surface orientation while ignoring the surface materials assigned to the 3D model. This allows you to focus solely on the shape of the 3D model.

Control by the Presenter

If you bring Amateras Model Viewer on your laptop, just like a PowerPoint presentation, you can give your own presentation using your own computer. There is no need to ask planetarium staff to import your 3D models into the planetarium system or operate them for you.

Dual Display for Control and Projection

When projecting onto a dome screen, a separate preview and control screen is shown for the presenter. This allows you to operate the application as usual while the domemaster output is sent to the dome screen.

Dome Overview for Previewing

Without practice in an actual planetarium or dome theater, you can check what the projection will look like by previewing it on a virtual dome screen. You can also adjust the view to ensure that the whole 3D model is displayed on the screen.

Real-time Dome Projection

To display Amateras Model Viewer on a dome screen, use the external video input function of the facility's digital planetarium or media server. Amateras Model Viewer can output real-time video in dome master formats ranging from 1K to 4K, depending on the performance of the facility's system.

Saving Screenshots

To review dome visuals in advance or prepare handouts, you can save the Amateras Model Viewer preview screen and the dome master rendering as image files.

No Installation Required

Amateras Model Viewer can be run directly without running an installer. It can also be launched from a USB storage device connected to your computer.

Move the Entire Environment Easily

The 3D models and various settings displayed in Amateras Model Viewer are stored as data within the application folder. Therefore, you can move the same environment to another computer simply by copying the application folder.
